Dali Altreco C1 : Surround Speaker
Dali Alteco C-1 is is a highly versatile loudspeaker in both function and form. The most ideal fit for supplementing height data from Atmos, DTS-X and Auro-3D films to a surround setup or for functioning as a discreet stereo speaker.
Versatile
The speaker does not impose any special equalising but manages to enhance the effects of Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTF). The speaker works by using only the height processing that is undertaken by the amplifier. If Dali had tried to introduce non-linear HRTF convolution, it would mean that the speaker could not be ever considered to be a neutral speaker, limiting its use to only be an up-firing speaker.
Positioning
The Alteco C-1 can be used in a variety of positions, it can be angled front or dual sound mode can be enabled. Adding vertical information in surround sound setups can be done by placing the ALTECO C-1 on top of the front speakers or on the rear speakers. These speakers a very versatile they can be employed as normal front speakers placed high on a wall or placed horizontally on the side wall. Also, the speaker can be used for very close proximity listening, such as for a computer desktop setting.
Dali C1’s use a simple switch to enact down-firing mode, the speaker can then be used as a rear channel or surround speaker placed, positioned on a wall close to the listening position. P_lacing the speaker close to the listener is possible because the down-firing mode lowers the sound direction downwards by approximately 25 degrees.
The Dali Alteco C-1 is highly diverse, which gives you the flexibility to add vertical dimension information to a traditional Hi-fi system or a new surround system, which will give you the perfect angle on your rear or surround speakers, or used in rooms where the speakers need to be hidden.
Dual Sound Mode
The unique angular design and the dual sound mode means this speaker is highly versatile, with it being able to be used in a variety of setup. By choosing the ‘UP’ option on the switch the sound waves are beamed straight out for a soft downwards angle. Conversely, selecting ‘DOWN’ setting, the beaming will be almost straight vertically down for close positional listening.
The design of the speaker makes it fantastic for up-firing use. In designing the Dali C1, Dali ensured that it is usable as both a vertical height speaker, like the Dolby Atmos, DTS-X or Auro-3D and can also be used as a traditional stereo pair speaker. Dali has designed the crossover for using in stereo and by focussing on their own design principles, they have managed to create a speaker that fulfills both criteria, suitable for including vertical height data to a surround system or as a discreet stereo speaker.
Drivers
Constructed around a 4½” low loss wood fibre woofer using a combination of low-mass paper cones with wood fibre augmentation and a 21mm super-light soft dome tweeter, the Alteco C-1 is designed around Dali sound principles to bring a unique speaker to your living space. The wood fibre cones are Dali signature components, crafted from a mix of fine-grained paper and wood fibre pulp. The construction of the cones makes the cones very highly ridged, very lightweight and the layout of the membrane helps minimises any unwanted surface resonances.
By utilising the wooden fibre cone coupled with a low-loss rubber compound surround, in a spider suspension configuration results in a speaker capable of reproducing even the smallest micro-detail in the signal, so the signal is unfiltered and produced highly accurate. By ensuring a speaker with a wide dispersion area, low colouration and an extended frequency response the soft dome tweeter has been used. The tweeter has been created from a lightweight woven fabric, weighing less than half of the market standard (0.056 mg/mm2).
