Matrix Audio Element P2

Description

Matrix Audio Element P2 : Power Amplifier Stereo

The Matrix Audio Element P2 Streaming System is a powerful class D amplifier that is designed for use with a preamp and passive speakers. It can be used as a stereo amplifier or a bridged mono amplifier. The power output is 110 watts per channel into 8 Ohms, in stereo mode. In bridged mono mode, the power is 500 watts.

The Frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz. A trigger input is provided so that the preamp can turn the unit on and off. Balanced inputs are provided as well as standard RCA connectors.

Quality WBT speaker connectors

The speaker connectors on the Matrix Audio Element P2 Amplifier are made by WBT and have a tightness indicator so that the spade connectors or wires cannot be over-tightened. Additionally, the metal parts are gold-plated to provide a low impedance reliable connection. This is necessary with the high currents involved with this amplifier.

Chord Capble X version updates proof feet

The Matrix Audio Element P2 Amplifier features multi-part feet that isolate the unit from any other component it is placed on. The feet contain ceramic balls and silicone rubber that absorb any mechanical interference. XLR balanced inputs are provided as well as standard RCA connectors.

What is Class D?

Class D amplifiers, such as those used by the Matrix Audio Element P2 Amplifier, are much more efficient than linear amplifiers. They can provide high-output powers without needing massive power supplies. They also generate less heat.

The output consists of a series of high-frequency pulses. This is known as Pulse Code Modulation(PCM) which makes Class D purely digital. As a result, no analogue noise can enter the system. Another difference is the output transistors. Class D normally uses fast-switching MOSFETs as opposed to bipolar transistors.

Why a separate power amplifier?

Hi-end systems try to separate all the functions of an audio system into separate units. This minimizes mutual interference. Integrated units tend to cram in circuits that can interfere with each other. For example, digital processing can put high-frequency noise onto the power supply lines. Additionally. Power supplies can induce noise and hum into high-gain preamp circuits. As a result, the Matrix Audio Element P2 Amplifier is designed to work with a separate preamp and streamer.
