Melodika Brown Sugar BS2X15 : Interconnect XLR

Price for 1meter

The Melodika BS2X is a high-end connection cable and the first within the Brown Sugar series from the Polish brand. It is terminated with modified metal plugs from Neutrik with silver-plated plugs. The symmetrical construction of the cable with a dense, double shielding makes the BS2X ideal for connecting an amplifier with balanced (symmetrical) inputs to a CD player, streamer, or DAC.

What makes the new product from the Polish manufacturer special?

Increasing the conductor’s cross-section is one of the elements that enhances the overall performance of the XLR cable Melodika BS2X. According to Ohm’s law, the resistance of the conductor is inversely proportional to its cross-section. Reducing resistance ensures that the quality and level of the transmitted electrical signal do not decrease. A larger cross-section also improves resistance to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), which is crucial when there are many electrical devices nearby. This is particularly important for high-quality analog audio signals.

Double shielding

The shielding braid is made of copper with a minimum 99% coverage which ensures very high resistance to any interference. To further increase the shielding effectiveness, a layer of metalized Mylar foil was used, which ensures 100% coverage density.

What does double shielding provide? The braided copper shield is thicker and thus, absorbs more electromagnetic interference (EMI), especially at lower frequencies. On the other hand, the Mylar foil, which is the second shielding layer, absorbs less interference but offers better protection across a wider frequency spectrum. Double shielding is therefore an optimal solution, providing broad-frequency protection against interferences and their negative impact on the signal.

Double shielding is therefore an optimal solution that introduces broad-frequency protection against interference and their negative impact on the signal.

In Spiral Litz Technology each braid is made of separately insulated and twisted wires which enables them to act as separate conductors, not as one large conductor. The total voltage of power amplifier’s output flows in each of them. This type of solution prevents electrons from jumping from one strand to another and thus, eliminates the loss of the so-called subtle information. The most important benefit of this technology is the uniformity of the current distribution throughout the cable cross-section that increases the efficiency of current transmission. Skin-effect is reduced to minimum. Furthermore, the conductors’ insulation prevents copper oxidation.

Multi-Gauge Core Technology is the special cable construction that responds to the fact that the wire thickness affects its electrical properties. Thus, Melodika BS2X Brown Sugar consists of strands of various thicknesses to deliver the best sound from low, medium and high tones.

No skin effect
The higher the frequency transmitted through the line, the more the current tends to flow on the surface of the conductor. This occurs due to variable magnetic interactions of the current with itself. This is not a desirable phenomenon because with increasing frequency, the utilized surface area of the conductor decreases, resulting in increased cable impedance for high frequencies. The signal begins to flow unevenly (including phase shifts), leading to the loss of very quiet components, described as a lack of air or subtle information in listening experiences. Therefore, the Melodika Brown BSC1211 cable, on which the Melodika BS2X interconnect is based, features three different conductor thicknesses.

Twisted cores – the use of the spirally twisted braid reduces the cable’s sensitivity to interference. As a result, the current induced in one conductor has the opposite direction to that in the neighboring one and thus, the disturbances cancel one another. This solution was invented in 1881 by Alexander Graham Bell (scientist, inventor of the telephone and dozens of other telecommunications inventions), who demonstrated that this arrangement reduces the impact of EMI and mutual interferences called crosstalk.

The quality of materials used, precision, and durability of construction make us offer a 10-year warranty on all Melodika products, including the BS2X cable.

The Melodika XLR interconnect is marked with the symbol BS2X, where « BS » is an abbreviation for the series name – Brown Sugar, « 2X » stands for 2xXLR, and the numbers following this symbol indicate the cable length. Therefore, a cable with a length of 2.5m will have the symbol: BS2X25, and a cable with a length of 5m will be BS2X50. The Melodika BS2X Brown Sugar cable is available in lengths from 0.5m to 10m.
